The Sweetwater Guard Station Campground has 3 walk-in campsites and 8 pull-in sites featuring picnic tables and fire rings at each. The Campground is nestled at the base of the Wind River Mountains and sits next to the Sweetwater River. On the other side of the river is the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. This campground is located about 73 miles from Rock Springs and 69 miles from Lander. The access road is an improved dirt road, typically well-maintained during summer months. There is no winter maintenance, and the site is typically accessible only by snowmobile during winter. Additional facilities include a pit toilet and trash receptacles that are secured against bears with a carabineer-type clip. There are no hookups or potable water available. This free, accessible site is first come, first served.

Getting There

Off State Highway 28, turn north onto County Road 5-13/Continental Divide Road. Continue for 15 miles and turn east onto BLM Road 4105/Sweetwater Gap Ranch Road for 6 miles. Staying left, travel down BLM Road 4112 for 2.3 miles to the campground loop road.
